SELECTED WORK 2008-2010

September 8 - October 9, 2010

Keisho Okayama

In a world that is becoming increasingly fragmented and dispirited, I find solace in the act of painting. As my own spirit becomes fragmented, it is possible through metaphor to achieve some sense of wholeness. The resolution of an image for me must give a rightful position in space for each disparate aspect of my own nature as they arise in consciousness. One does the best one can, of course, but if successful there is a realization of inner harmony and a feeling for beauty. An image for me cannot be preconceived but realized through the process of painting. Success is unpredictable and often the path can lead to failure and feelings of impotence and a terrible loss of faith. The realization of an image and the consequent affirmation of hope refresh one’s spirit, and the world once again is made whole and provides nurture. I am very grateful to be a painter---it is an ancient art full of wonder and mystery.
