In Conversation

This In Conversation show with my husband Irwin is a way to communicate pictorially with each other. Irwin has Parkinson’s disease and for the last three years has had difficulties speaking clearly due to his condition. I encouraged him to draw. Even though his hands shake a little, his mind is sharp and he decided to draw. He always liked to draw portraits from memory when he was in medical school in England. Irwin’s drawings to me are like portraits of states of mind. They are of the moment. They find a way from a beginning to a destination.

I wanted to have the freedom to express myself in collage and manipulate images, allowing my unconscious to express my moments, as well. Unbalance. Anger. Magic. Surprise. Fear. Insecurity. Life forces. This is the human condition, life and art intertwine.

We remember our dear artist friend, Sam Amato, whom we lost a few months ago and how he liked Haiku poetry:

Crimson pepper pod
add two pairs of wings, and look
darting dragonfly.
