Paintings

My painting is always a search for a synthesis of color and structure, the process can lead to very reductive color statements, but often there are exceptions, abstractions with recognizable references, usually architectural.

The initial surface divisions are rescaled and adjusted as they fill with color, and this color development really becomes the life of the painting. The work arrives at a resolution when the colors interact and result in a spatial fusion.

In play at times are travel memories of Mexico and more recently Japan. As a painting grows, the physicality of these atmospheric and architectural space recollections can surface unpredictably.

In this time of constant visual assault in our daily lives, and the concurrent complexity of art making approaches, I paint and I value more than ever traditional painting values.
