From the Center

Over the past few years, I have been interested in fractals. These structures, seen in nature, geometry and art, are characterized by randomly generated visual patterns, self-similarity and a variation of scale. No doubt this interest has influenced my recent work which explores detailed patterns, a hierarchy of shapes, repetition, randomness and grids.

I am also interested in symbolic shape that can suggest the contradictions and puzzles of life. Here, overlapping boundaries, interdependence of shape and alternating attachments express both changing and shifting relationship.

Some of the paintings have a central focus where fragments and separations merge to a center of oneness and unity. In others the centers may be airy and mysterious while still others emit an aura of warmth and solitude.

Mandalas, throughout their history, utilize fractal ideas as well as central points………thus the theme of the exhibit: From the Center
